Part 3 is for fixed brace patients that may be experiencing rubbing on the inside of their cheeks.

Patients may experience some rubbing as their cheeks get used to the feeling of the roughness of the brace. If you are experiencing this, you can use your wax to help cushion your mouth against the fixed brace. To do that, you need to dry the area off as best you can with a cotton bud and then use the wax. You only need a small amount and you can warm it up in between your fingers until it goes a bit warm, soft and tacky and then place it over the area, working it around the bracket so that it stays in place. Once that rubbing has happened, you may find that you are experiencing ulceration soreness on the insides of your cheeks. If so, using a warm salty mouthwash can help reduce that soreness. Make this simply by boiling the kettle and allowing the water to cool down so it’s at a temperature your mouth can tolerate. Add a couple of tea spoons of salt and let that dissolve. Swish that around the mouth and that will help settle that inflammation around the mouth.. You can also take paracetamol (make sure to follow the instructions on the box).
