Tips for brace care

9 top tips for brace care

  • Have your braces checked and adjusted every six to eight weeks. If this does not happen, your treatment will not progress and your teeth can be damaged.
  • Keep all your appointments
  • Keep your braces clean – we will show you how to do this and can provide you with a care pack full of things to help
  • Don’t eat or drink anything sugary, sticky or hard (such as chewing gum or toffee)
  • Don’t chew pencils or fingernails
  • Don’t fiddle with your braces
  • Let us know as soon as you have a problem – please don’t leave it until your next visit
  • Attend regular check-ups with your family dentist
  • After your fixed braces have been removed, you will be advised to wear a retainer. This may be removable or fixed behind the teeth. This is perhaps the most important part of your treatment, as teeth can move back long after braces have been removed.
