Preparing For Your Child’s Video Consultation
We are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to meet you and help shape your child’s most confident smile! To ensure that our Specialist Orthodontists can provide beneficial guidance during their upcoming video consultation, we kindly ask for your assistance.
The next step is to take a moment to upload clear photographs of your child’s teeth prior to their video consultation. Please note this step is essential to move onto the next stage.
NHS Orthodontic Treatment at Queensway Orthodontics: A Guide for Parents and Families
The NHS provides orthodontic treatment for individuals who meet their specific criteria. Every NHS treatment uses top-grade materials and contemporary methods. They're either executed directly by a Specialist Orthodontist or under their close guidance.
The NHS dental contract in England has set guidelines regarding who's eligible for orthodontic care based on the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). Essentially, this index prioritises patients with more pressing dental health concerns.

It's important to note that the NHS doesn't offer assessments or treatments to individuals aged 18 and above or to those with only minor orthodontic issues as per the IOTN score.
Before embarking on NHS dental orthodontic procedures, it's vital for patients to uphold excellent oral hygiene. It's also important for them to have a clear comprehension of the treatment process, its expectations, and what’s expected from them in return.

Your Child's Initial NHS Assessment: Once you have uploaded photographs of your child’s smile, your child will undergo an initial assessment that involves a video consultation with one of our expert Specialist Orthodontists to assess their dental condition. We ask that you submit clear photographs of your child's teeth in advance to help us make a more informed assessment.
How Do I Know If My Child Qualifies?
We will inform you if your child qualifies for NHS treatment during the video consultation. For more complex cases that require additional examination, we may invite you to visit our practice for an in-depth appointment with our experienced team. Please be advised that the NHS treatment waiting list can often vary from 12 – 24 months.
What If My Child Doesn’t Qualify?
There are instances where a patient might not be eligible due to their IOTN score or dental condition (like untreated cavities or inadequate oral hygiene). If this happens, we will provide a clear explanation. Additionally, we'll discuss the pros and cons of any potential treatments with both the patient and their family, including self-funded options.
Is A Fixed Metal Brace My Child’s Only Option?
If your child does not meet the criteria for NHS brace treatment, self-funded options are available to explore at Queensway Orthodontics. This includes ceramic fixed braces and Invisalign clear aligners. To facilitate a smooth financing experience, we offer flexible payment plans tailored to suit your budget..
Does My Child Have to Wait on the NHS Waiting List?
At Queensway Orthodontics, we are always here to facilitate your child’s orthodontic journey at your preferred pace. While the NHS waiting list is an option, it is not the only pathway to receiving treatment.
We understand that waiting can sometimes be a source of anxiety, especially when it concerns your child’s wellbeing. To provide an alternative, we offer a range of private treatment options which not only have shorter waiting times but also come with the added benefit of a wider array of treatment options, including Invisalign First, which is designed to meet the unique needs of our younger patients.
Taking the self-funded treatment route also allows for more flexible appointment schedules, ensuring that your child’s treatment plan fits seamlessly into your family’s routine. Moreover, our team of dedicated experts is committed to working closely with you to find a flexible payment option to suit your budget, without compromising on the quality of care provided. We invite you to explore our range of self-funded options here.
